Questions and Answers About This Camp

Q1.Who will be the chess instructor(s) in this camp?
A1. United States Chess Master Joe Hanley is the chief instructor as well as tournament director. He (I) may be helped by United States Expert Barry Lazarus depending on the number of students.

Q2. If my son/daughter comes only one day, how is he/she worked into the group?
A2. While it is true other students will have played games prior, the format for pairing up students for games will be they will play the closest player to them in rating. The one restriction will be they cannot play the same player twice in a day. Therefore, he/she will play the next highest rated player to them. The Non-Rated players will play the next closest in grade to themselves with the same restriction.

Q3. Will my son/daughter have to compete against higher, more experienced players?
A3. No, each student will be placed in either the Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced Group based on either their USCF rating or playing ability.

Q4. What does my son/daughter have to bring with them each day?
A4. Please have them bring their chess set, clock, and scorebook.

Q5. What if I am unable to pick up my child by 4:45?
A5. We will care for your child until you arrive. There will be a fee of $8/hr. charged for this care.

Q6. What is the refund policy should my child have to cancel?
A6. As long as the cancellation is within one month from the registration period, a full refund will be given. If your child wishes to leave camp due to to not wanting to participate or any other non-emergency circumstance, a refund of the remaining days will be given but not for the remainder of that day.

Q7. What does the registration fee include?
A7. For the full day students, the cost includes snacks and a camp t-shirt. For those attending half days, their registration will include a Camp T-Shirt.
